IT'S AMAZING WHAT A LITTLE FERTILIZER WILL DO!

Yup! That's all it took. I bought this "Bearded Iris" a few years ago. It only bloomed once although the greens did sprout every year. This year I fertilized in early April and now I have one bloom. Just one but I love it! Two other sets sprouted greens but no blooms. Maybe next year.

A DAY AT THE RACES

I know it's been quite a while since I've posted but my new job has really taken over. I've been exhausted and am now getting used to my new schedule. Unfortunately, my creative time has been cut drastically. Ironic that I work at a fabric/craft store and I don't have time to be creative at home.

I have just started a new, huge project of decreasing my CPK collection. I have been listing Kids in my Readoption room and hope to list some on Ebay. The first Saturday in June is my yard sale and some of them will end up there.

So, on another note...Steph and her boyfriend, Grant came to Louisville for the Derby weekend. We all went to the Oaks (Friday before Derby) and had a great day at the track. Fortunately, we had fabulous weather (sorry Derby).

And, of course we just had to have hats...so Frank and I went off to Dee's Crafts to find the hats and all of the decorations. Steph had to mail me her dress so we could match the ribbons and ribbons. We didn't put hers all together until she arrived on Thursday. I think they came out pretty good. As crafty as I am, I am lucky that Frank has a great color eye.

This is the second year that The Oaks is "Pink Out" at Churchill Downs. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink and the track is all decked out in pink, as well. Huge donations were made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Yyes, Frank is wearing pink too...pink stripes on his shirt.)

NAME IT!

Here's the latest. But, not sure what it is...just a square head with 3 feet! Cute! I think this one will go to John. I love making these things but just don't need extra stuff laying around.
Work at JoAnn Fabrics & Crafts is going great. Getting plenty of hours and now I'm testing various shoes & insoles in all different combos. Hopefully I'll be able to settle on something soon as I work on Friday.

2010 CKC - CREATING KEEPSAKES CONVENTION

This year I am just wiped out. Of course doing a Fri night crop and then a Sat morning 8:30 class doesn't help. I did a total of 5 classes. I don't think I'll do that again...just too much. And, the quality of the classes varied tremendously. The best class was sponsored by Technique Tuesday - they make great clear stamps among other things.

These first 2 layouts were from a class called "Beyond The Square". It's goal was to give you ideas about how to use die cut papers. I don't think I learned much new. Everyone did the same layout with the same papers, so when I got home I added a few personal touches. These are not like my usual style but they are ok and I am happy with them.

These 2 layouts were from a class called "Masking & Misting". Again, not sure I learned much here but they gave great supplies. The best thing about this class was that everyone did something different...no true cookie cutter layouts here. I'm happy with the first one but I think the second one needs something...not sure what.

This one is of Tracy

This one is Steph
All I need to do now is add some journaling to all of these.

Thanks for stopping by.

CAREFUL!! DON'T GET STUNG!

I just finished this knitted jelly fish for Tracy. She and I were in Michael's one day when we saw this pattern book and yarn on clearance. It has several weird creatures to knit and stuff. She picked out the jelly fish and the colors so I agreed to give it a try. I thought it came out pretty good. Kinda cute too.

As for my job at Jo-Ann's.... orientation is tomorrow at 5 pm. Must wear the prescribed "uniform" of black or khaki pants and a white shirt with a collar. Check and Check! Looking forward to starting this new chapter.

GUESS WHO'S EMPLOYES??

I got the phone call Friday around 6 PM. Yep! I've passed my first hurdle. I got the job. Granted it's not a glamorous job but I wanted it so badly. I'll be a cashier at Jo-Ann's. I'm supposed to get another call today to let me know what I'll be paid and to give me info about orientation. The interviewer asked me one very important question...if I'll just be giving my pay check back to the store on pay day...I did say, "NO" because I have tons of supplies already. I hope I can keep my promise to myself.

On another note, just wanted to show off my 2 latest knitting projects. I decided to do a baby blanket, or two, after completing a knitting class at Sophies' here in town. I'm so thrilled at how far I've come from not knowing anything over the summer.

This is my first attempt. Love the color but it just wasn't girly enough

Then I did this one which I made for my brand new niece up in Wisconsin.
More later about my new felting project and the CKC here in Louisville this coming weekend.

On Feb 11th we braved the snow and coming storms to see my baby graduate from Physical Therapy School. Steph attended Arcadia University which is just outside Philly. She really didn't get a diploma that day; just an I.O.U. as she still has to finish one of her clinical rotations that got interrupted due to the bike/car accident. But it was thrilling, nonetheless, to hear the speaker announcer her as "Dr. Stephanie _____". Fantastic!

Steph & Grant (her new guy) at a great Greek restaurant for a celebration lunch.

Tracy & Ricoh at my sister's house in NJ. Poor little guy is recovering from double knee surgery.

A fantastic Dale Chihuly glass sculpture inside the fantastic Liberty Museum in the Old City, Philly. (I LOVE Chihuly!!!)

MMMMMM.....SMELLS YUMMY

We got about 4 inches of snow on our street - fluffy stuff, not the hard frozen stuff. You could push the shovel off with one hand. Or...do what my neighbor did and use a push broom!

Time to bake today! Didn't want to go out anyway. Frank and I had planned ahead and had everything we needed to bake these yummy ginger snap sandwich cookies!!

The filling is made with cream cheese , powdered sugar and a little orange juice...sweet!

And, of course, I had to take Adam Luther out to play in the snow. It was pretty deep for him!

SO, WHAT'S NEW??

What's new is that I've begun the job hunting process. I'm looking for a part time job and have already filled out several applications to local retail stores. What's with these on-line applications? I like handing my application in by hand so much better!!

So, in the mean time, I'm trying to keep busy with making new layouts.

This is my husband, Frank. Can't you see the same face?? Over the winter break, Steph decided to scan boxes and boxes of slides into the computer. THANK YOU, Steph!! Some are not in very good condition but others are perfect. I was able to do a little editing on some.

These next 2 are birthday cards that I made for 2 January birthdays.

OK, so, a year ago I found some wrestling papers & embellishments at the CKC (Creating Keepsakes Convention) here in Louisville. I bought them for my sister because her son, David, was a star on his high school team. Well, she said she didn't have time so I took them with the photos and have finally gotten around to scrapping them. These next 2 layouts are the results.

Back in 2008, Steph, my sister and I went on a cruise. I did a journal of the adventure but I never really scrapped layouts. These are the first two. We were at Half Moon Cay near the Bahamas (I think) and Micky just had the best time....relaxing.
This one was on a boat riding to a stingray excursion.

This is my latest layout for These Are a Few of My Favorite Things Challenge Blog. The challenge was to scrap your favorite fragrance.

I skipped 2008 but finally got around to doing a year-in-review layout for 2009.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Layouts

One of my favorite challenge blogs, These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things, has a different kind of challenge this month. We are to chose the one favorite layout that we did in 2009. I've done quite a lot of layouts but when I reviewed all of them, I came up with this one. It was originally done for Scrap The Music but I'm submitting it for January's TTAFOMFT challenge.

It hits home. I was being brutally honest with myself (probably could have been even more honest, though).
I was also proud of the techniques I used in this layout.

The journaling reads:

"I am overweight. Have been for a very long time. Can't blame it on babies any longer. They are 24 and 25 years old.

I am fat. The doctor said I was obese. Even that didn't sink in.

I see it when I see myself in photos. I don't see it day to day. I definitely aint feeling what I see.

That's the problem. If I can just feel fat, then maybe I'd be able to stick with the program and lose this *!#?@ fat!"

-------------------------------------------------------
On another note, This next layout was done for the last TAAFOMFT challenge..."your favorite car". I really loved doing this one and actually was one of the challenge winners.
Journaling reads:

"All I want to do is to drive one...just once. I've been in love with vintage 'Vettes for many years. Don't think I want to own one; just take it for a test drive. This is definitely on my bucket list!"

As always, thanks for stopping by!
