CAUGHT BETWEEN A TRAIN & A HARD PLACE...

Last weekend, Frank and I went to an art fair in LaGrange, KY - just about 30 minutes from home. This place was really interesting...the train runs right through Main Street!!...right next to all the shops and parked cars.

But then we heard the train conductor hanging out his window and yelling for someone to get over to the other side! Little did we know that he was yelling at a CAR to get over to the other side. Well, the people in the car went on the wrong side and actually got STUCK between the stopped train and the parked cars!!!

Well, we didn't hang around long enough to see the outcome but this was one sight I won't soon forget!

MY FIRST C.J.!!

I signed up for my very first Circle Journal. So far, the experience has been SO exciting. There are 7 of us and each person chooses her own journal theme and then all of the other people make layouts, according to the theme, for her journal. All of the participants will be attending the SISiversary weekend in Franklin, TN in a few weeks. Usually circle journal go in the mail. Instead, we'll all exchange layouts at the event. All of the layouts are double 8 x 8s except for the one indicated.

This is the cover I made for my journal. It holds 8 x 8 layouts.

This is inside the front cover...it explains the theme for my journal.

Each person is asked to make tags that tell about themselves. I created this pocket page to hold all of the tags I will receive.

This is the layout I made for my own journal.

This is a 6 x 6 layout for a journal with the theme of "home".

This journal's theme is "Why I scrapbook".

This theme is "Guilty Pleasures" - Yes, I watch Kyle XY!

"Inspiration" is the theme for this journal. I was inspired by a set of note cards I bought at MoMA in NYC

This one was to scrap a song lyric and to include a picture of yourself...I chose "What was I thinking" by Dierks Bently. I highlighted some of my many hairstyles over the years.

The theme of this journal is "What makes you, you!". I included some self descriptive words along with other things that made me who I am today.

Since this journal, I've signed up for my second. I still haven't decided on my theme yet but I really do need to get crackin'!

Thanks for looking.

You Can Take the Girl Out of New York but You Can Never Take the New York Out of the Girl!

Here's some more layouts that I did of our trip to New York...man, I miss that place!!

While Frank and I were on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, along came this pigeon and sat on the edge. He sat there for the longest time, walked back and forth as if he were watching the people as much as the people were watching him!! He let everyone get very close! Cute, little dirty pigeon!

This layout is just full of random things that we saw around the city! It's a little busy, but then, so is New York!

We saw these 2 shows while in the city. The 39 Steps and Alter Boyz. Both were excellent and I'd recommend them to everyone!

One of the most surprising things in the City was the Manhattan subway stations! They were FILLED with beautiful mosaics! Here's a layout highlighting the ones that I took pics of.

There's still more to come...especially pics from when we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge!

New York, I Miss You!!!

Well, I've been back for over a week and haven't blogged about my trip yet! I am now going to try to make up for my lapse. I took so many pics that I nearly filled my 8 gig memory card! Way too many pics for me to upload here. But, I will upload the layouts I've done and will be doing.

Instead of doing a daily journal or scrapping my trip day by day, I've decided to scrap it by theme (where possible), as you'll see.

This layout highlights quite a bit of the beautiful iron work that we saw all round the City. Great designs & craftsmanship!

Back in 1974 (after we moved away) my parents and I went back to NY to visit and went down to South Street Seaport & John Street along with my grandfather. We found these great colorful chairs and phone booths. Years later my own family went back and I looked for these but never found them; thought they were gone for good! Then, as Frank and I wandered down to South Street Seaport, we stumbled upon them...in a different location but still in existence!! I was thrilled!

This is only a tiny glimpse of Rockefeller Center and the iconic figure, but I already have pics of the Center from a past trip. I wanted something different. All during this trip I was focusing on design and tiny details of the City. This pic shows the Center through one of the bronze sculptures surrounding the area. I wanted this layout to be simple and focus on just this point!

What's New York without some of the best food!! Before we left on our trip, I made a mental list of things I wanted to eat while there. I think I did it all! The best was the kinish from the Carnegie Deli and my, nearly, nightly Black & White cookies---Can't beat 'em!!

This is, by no means, the end of my posting about NY. Stay tuned for more!

On a sadder note, I've had to cancel this year's edition of Cabbage Kids Adventure Camp due to lack of registrants. I guess the economy blue have taken over camp! I will probably try again next year, but Adam Luther is still pouting.

Thanks for stopping by!

GOING GREEN & ANOTHER COUNTDOWN

Bye Bye Avalon. Last Friday (May 3 - KY Oaks Day), Frank brought home his new car. It's a Prius! While I do miss some of the luxury features of the old Avalon, it was just that...OLD! Frank's been itching for a new car for almost a year now and just couldn't decide on what to get. He finally made his decision! Congrats!! And BOY, does it get great mileage!!!

We're NYC bound...the BIG APPLE!! We're in countdown mode... 4 days till take off!
DID YOU KNOW:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!!!

Well, I got me some happy mail today!! This is what Jan sent me, from her own stash, for winning her NSD challenge. I LOVE all of it! Can't wait to dig in!! Thanks Jan!!

On another note, this next layout is a completed project from NSD. Lucy on SIStv challenged us with this rather messy project. It involved lots of chipboard, acrylic gesso and several colors of acrylic paints. Then came the doodling and some embellishments. This one was tons of fun!!

OLW's word is "two" and Cafe Mojo wanted us to scrap about Mother's Day, so I managed to combine both into 1 layout. Both photos are my daughters' firsts.

Thanks for stopping by!

NSD RESULTS

So, NSD is over (National Scrapbook Day). When I told my husband about NSD he said, rather sarcastically, "of course!"...like I need another reason to be scrapping.

But this was so much fun at SIStv!! Several of the SISters were the activity hostesses and they started posting challenges before midnight on Friday night. NSD actually started on Saturday, but there was no need to wait. Most of the challenges had prizes and winners but you had until Sunday at midnight to post your finished layouts or projects.

We also had an on line bingo game!! It took nearly 2 hours but we had lots of fun chatting and guessing what the visuals were that were called.

So, here are my finished layouts from this past weekend. We really do need to call it National Scrapbook Weekend...a day just isn't enough!

For this first challenge we were to make a mini album out of mini tags...that's right...these are a whopping 2 3/4 x 1 3/8! And we were to use up bits and pieces of things that we had saved. So, yeah, I did this for Adam Luther...he's just such a busy little guy and he needed a busy little mini book.

This challenge was rather interesting...called the "6PM Dinner Menu". The hostess posted a menu and we had to choose one item from each category (i.e. appetizer, veggie, main course, etc..) Then, each item corresponded with a certain scrap feature. So, my "bread basket, fruit salad, pizza, carrots & cheesecake" translated into 6 x 12 format, use cardboard, use black/white/red colors, use stitching & 2 different pattern papers. Phew!

If that wasn't enough, I combined this with another challenge called "Loving You", that had us think of 10 positive things to say about ourselves. This is the result:

These next 2 layouts go with the challenge called "Not Your Ordinary Thing"...it was to get us to NOT scrap about people! So, yes, Adam Luther came to mind again (but don't tell him he's not a people!), but so did our trip out west.

This last one was a 3-fer...3 challenges in 1 layout. First came our "Free Shopping Game"...I "bought" Bo Bunny (background), postcard (I just got it in the mail that day) & a hand written title.

Second challenge was "What's Old is New" - get those older than dirt scrap supplies out from the bottom of the stack and use them up. I used my old Bo Bunny card stock and some old paper. Even the photo is old

Finally, I went for "The Write Stuff" - an excercise in journaling from the heart and not just facts about the photo...really getting into feelings.
AND, for this layout, I won for the "What's Old is New" Challenge! YAY me. I'll post when I get my prizes!

And, about my blog format? Still working on that. Having some difficulties with PSE and trying to create my own background and header. What you see here is what others have created. Will go for that for now until I have more time. I might just go with the pre-made stuff...less time consuming.

Thanks for stopping by!
