I GUESS I REALLY NEEDED ANOTHER HOBBY...

I decided to take up a little jewelry making. And, not just any jewelry, but jewelry with a purpose. I've had some of my mother's old costume jewelry in my closet for the past 7 years. They were pretty ugly! Couldn't even sell them in a yard sale. So, I decided to revamp them. I cut them all apart and sorted the beads and stones. Unfortunately, I neglected to take a "before" picture of them. But, what you see here comes from those necklaces. I've used mostly those beads and stones in these pieces. I did, however, had to fill in with a few newer items. So, now when I wear them, I'll think of my mom!

KENTUCKY MEETS AUSTRALIA BIRTHDAY PRESENT

Happy Early Birthday to Tracy. Way back in our Girl Scout days, our troop took a field trip to Kentucky Down Under near Bowling Green. Tracy was sick and couldn't go. So, when I asked her what she wanted for her 27th birthday, she said she wanted to go to KDU. Her wish was granted yesterday.

Our temperatures were in the high 80's and mid 90's. We were the only ones in the park for a while and the other brave souls showed up; 2 or 3 other families...that's it!

This is a Paupan Frogmouth - betcha didn't know that! Kinda evil looking. And, yes, it's a bird.

Tracy took every opportunity to pet whatever they let her pet.

four of the different sheep they had on display...I bet they were hot!!

They asked for volunteers so I encouraged Tracy to join the fun. There were 4 of them and hers was the slowest eater.

And, when will she ever get another chance to milk a cow? Her name was Sugar, by the way.

No explanation needed...and he had 3 horns too!

herding demonstration

Down Under Kentucky Down Under. This cave was discovered by a 13 year old girl.

After the park we headed to a scrapbook store in Glasgow, KY. On the way there we saw these giant roosters. On the way back we stopped for a photo op. There were 4 of these - 2 on each side of the road.

SCRAP, SCRAP, ONE AND ALL!

When the bankruptcy trustee released all of our assets we knew we had to have the biggest yard sale ever! Well, we did that today. At one point, you couldn't fit any more people inside our 2 car garage.
There were rows of tables making 4 walkways...and just tons of women!
The sale was a huge success and I'd like to thank a few key people. Karen helped me get ready and came early this morning and spent the whole day working a yard sale that was not hers. AND she brought most of the tables. Tracy, who spent the past few weeks helping to sort, bag and price the merchandise from her scrapbook store. Barb, loaned us a great ladder and a collapse-able canopy to help us stay out of the sun (never got it set up...we couldn't figure it out). All of the friends and acquaintances who passed the word around and also came back for seconds and thirds.

It was exhausting. We're glad it's over. And, yes, there is still some merchandise left. All in all, it was a HUGE success!

Thanks for stopping by.

HOME SWEET APARTMENT

Steph's new apartment is in the heart of the Historic District of Center City Philidelphia. Great location and a cool little neighborhood. The great charm of her apartment is the exposed ceiling and the great mix of old and new brick. Don't know how old her building is but I do know it is VERY old!

When you look at the pics just realize that Frank and I were staying there and all of our stuff, including an air mattress, was all over the place.

found this great little pub table/chairs to help with the huge ceilings

This great storage piece came from Pier 1 - lots of great character

This sofa is just what Steph was looking for... the chaise part was a "must"

She still needs a few more things, including lighting but I know she'll get to it when she can. Sorry, no pics of the bedroom or kitchen. Meanwhile, the new job is going great!

SWIM, BIKE, RUN

Frank and I were lucky enough to be in Philly to see Steph race. It was not her first but it was our first race to see first hand. The energy, excitement and emotion was fantastic! We had seen pictures before and heard accounts of races but being there was the best!

IT'S AMAZING WHAT A LITTLE FERTILIZER WILL DO!

Yup! That's all it took. I bought this "Bearded Iris" a few years ago. It only bloomed once although the greens did sprout every year. This year I fertilized in early April and now I have one bloom. Just one but I love it! Two other sets sprouted greens but no blooms. Maybe next year.

A DAY AT THE RACES

I know it's been quite a while since I've posted but my new job has really taken over. I've been exhausted and am now getting used to my new schedule. Unfortunately, my creative time has been cut drastically. Ironic that I work at a fabric/craft store and I don't have time to be creative at home.

I have just started a new, huge project of decreasing my CPK collection. I have been listing Kids in my Readoption room and hope to list some on Ebay. The first Saturday in June is my yard sale and some of them will end up there.

So, on another note...Steph and her boyfriend, Grant came to Louisville for the Derby weekend. We all went to the Oaks (Friday before Derby) and had a great day at the track. Fortunately, we had fabulous weather (sorry Derby).

And, of course we just had to have hats...so Frank and I went off to Dee's Crafts to find the hats and all of the decorations. Steph had to mail me her dress so we could match the ribbons and ribbons. We didn't put hers all together until she arrived on Thursday. I think they came out pretty good. As crafty as I am, I am lucky that Frank has a great color eye.

This is the second year that The Oaks is "Pink Out" at Churchill Downs. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink and the track is all decked out in pink, as well. Huge donations were made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Yyes, Frank is wearing pink too...pink stripes on his shirt.)

NAME IT!

Here's the latest. But, not sure what it is...just a square head with 3 feet! Cute! I think this one will go to John. I love making these things but just don't need extra stuff laying around.
Work at JoAnn Fabrics & Crafts is going great. Getting plenty of hours and now I'm testing various shoes & insoles in all different combos. Hopefully I'll be able to settle on something soon as I work on Friday.

2010 CKC - CREATING KEEPSAKES CONVENTION

This year I am just wiped out. Of course doing a Fri night crop and then a Sat morning 8:30 class doesn't help. I did a total of 5 classes. I don't think I'll do that again...just too much. And, the quality of the classes varied tremendously. The best class was sponsored by Technique Tuesday - they make great clear stamps among other things.

These first 2 layouts were from a class called "Beyond The Square". It's goal was to give you ideas about how to use die cut papers. I don't think I learned much new. Everyone did the same layout with the same papers, so when I got home I added a few personal touches. These are not like my usual style but they are ok and I am happy with them.

These 2 layouts were from a class called "Masking & Misting". Again, not sure I learned much here but they gave great supplies. The best thing about this class was that everyone did something different...no true cookie cutter layouts here. I'm happy with the first one but I think the second one needs something...not sure what.

This one is of Tracy

This one is Steph
All I need to do now is add some journaling to all of these.

Thanks for stopping by.
