KEEPING BUSY

I've really been busy now that I have all of this "free" time on my hands. I'm trying to get a lot done before I'm out of commission for a little while (the big day is coming up this Thursday!). I've been cleaning out closets and drawers, making Good Will donations, helping a friend with a sewing project, baking for my synagogue's special upcoming event, knitting and scrapping.

I keep finding things to scrap about from our 2011 trip to NYC. This photo is from our gastronomical tour around New york. I think this is the best picture of the two of us from this vacation. We were in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) where there were trendy restaurants and some shops. It is starting to get very popular. AND, we had the Brooklyn Bridge in the background ; can't get better than that!

This photo is of my sister's two grandchildren. I just love that he's pointing to his cheek and she gave him a kiss. My dad used to do that whenever he wanted a kiss...he'd just tap on his cheek with his finger. Very sentimental to me. I don't know if they told him to do this or he did it on his own, but it's very cute!
I'm sure I'll do more layouts in the next week or so, so stay tuned...

SO, WHAT'S NEW??

What's new is that I've begun the job hunting process. I'm looking for a part time job and have already filled out several applications to local retail stores. What's with these on-line applications? I like handing my application in by hand so much better!!


So, in the mean time, I'm trying to keep busy with making new layouts.

This is my husband, Frank. Can't you see the same face?? Over the winter break, Steph decided to scan boxes and boxes of slides into the computer. THANK YOU, Steph!! Some are not in very good condition but others are perfect. I was able to do a little editing on some.

These next 2 are birthday cards that I made for 2 January birthdays.

OK, so, a year ago I found some wrestling papers & embellishments at the CKC (Creating Keepsakes Convention) here in Louisville. I bought them for my sister because her son, David, was a star on his high school team. Well, she said she didn't have time so I took them with the photos and have finally gotten around to scrapping them. These next 2 layouts are the results.

Back in 2008, Steph, my sister and I went on a cruise. I did a journal of the adventure but I never really scrapped layouts. These are the first two. We were at Half Moon Cay near the Bahamas (I think) and Micky just had the best time....relaxing.

This one was on a boat riding to a stingray excursion.

This is my latest layout for These Are a Few of My Favorite Things Challenge Blog. The challenge was to scrap your favorite fragrance.

I skipped 2008 but finally got around to doing a year-in-review layout for 2009.

Keep On Scrappin'

Went shopping at Scrap~N~Crap this morning. Now, I have some great materials to work with today. YAY!


But I did do some scrapping yesterday (yes, even though I was babysitting!)

This one is for OLW - the word is "gratitude". I may be late submitting it but every time I go to their website, right now, my computer freezes!

I wrote my journaling down the side: "Thanks to my parents I got my start with love, pride, understanding, morals, priorities and assistance...A great sart to pass along to my own family. Eternally"

This one is for the These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things challenge...your favorite season.

So much to do, so little time. I haven't scrapped an actual layout in weeks!!! I think I'm going through withdrawal. Maybe I need a self imposed crop...anyone want to crop with me??

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

I just love this relatively new challenge blog! It focuses on the "Me" instead of just scrapping the vacations, kits, etc. The prompts have been great so far. Can't wait for the next one. I haven't been able to scrap much lately so I've missed the deadlines for several challenge blogs. I finally got to sit down and do 2 whole layouts!


The prompt for this one was to scrap about your favorite movie. There are so many that I've loved over the years but this one just stood out so much more! I'm not a big fan of Abbott & Costello movies but this one was just so different...only 1 of 2 that they didn't act together in their usual fashion.

In a song called "If you could read my mind" there's a reference to the "ghosts in a wishing well". I believe that that quote references this movie. And, this is the movie that sparked my interest in ghostly things and the supernatural. LOVE this movie!! So, I totally missed the deadline for this one but I wanted to do it anyway.

This one is for the latest prompt about your favorite foods. Now, I didn't get to look the way I do by eating too many green beans! I love lots of different kinds of foods. But this is one that I have the hardest time to pass up. CINNAMON!! It has so many healthy advantages too!

Scrapping Away!!

In between NYC layouts, I've been doing some other things. These are my latest:

My Dad from 1943. The challenge from Scrapping Out Loud was to use distressing on your layout.

This was a challenge from Category Stories to go back in time to the 1980's and scrap something special about those years. This is the story about the COW...how Frank and I spent the night in E-town , KY after we had just been married and I saw a cow. (Remember I'm a NYC kid). I had him hop the fence and get a picture or two. Then he saw one with sharp horns and he took off and got out in 1 piece!

It's also using a sketch from Gretchen from SISiversary.

This is a scraplift...I got my inspiration from one of the gals on SIS. Here's Steph and all of her formal high school basketball pics.

This was a challenge from one of the newest challenge blogs: These Are a Few of My Favorite Things. The first challenge was to focus on your favorite color(s)

A challenge from Kiddie Lit: using The Velveteen Rabbit as inspiration. This is my threadbare, but wonderful, Clifford dog, that I've had since college.

WHEN LIFE HANDS YOU LEMONS....or...SCRAPPING UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES

I finally broke down and went to Michael's yestereday for a few basic supplies I may be here for another 4-5 days and I really needed something to do. The hardest part was that the only pics I had were what was already on my camera...mostly accident related. So, since I didn't get to go to my scrapping weekend, I got to play along with some challenges on SIS.


This layout was for a Free Shopping Challenge. You "buy" 3 items off of a list of 10 and then you have to use them on a layout. I "bought" staples, ink and doodling. All of the papers for these layouts come from a K & Company pad called "Day Dreams". Cute stuff!

This was another challenge where you had to use small photos, paint & cardboard. Luckily, I had thought about saving some of the cardboard off of the box one of the flower arrangements came in and got to use it here. I also saved part of the clear plastic and the company logo pick from the edible arrangement. The letters were drawn and cut out of a graph-like paper from the pad I bought and then gone over with a in black sharpie.


This was a fun but very challenging project. The challenge was to take a magazine ad and insert your photo over someone's face and then embellish the ad. Again, the only pics I had were the ones on my camera and the only pic of Steph I had were of her (mockingly) sad face. The only magazines I had to chose from were bicycling magazines. I used some plastic bag closure tabs that I had saved and created my own letters from card stock/paint.

Thanks for all the sweet comments and well wishes for Steph!! She is progressing. Didn't have a headache yesterday but still felt a bit clouded. Still can't walk completely normally but much of the swelling has gone down.

MY FIRST C.J.!!

I signed up for my very first Circle Journal. So far, the experience has been SO exciting. There are 7 of us and each person chooses her own journal theme and then all of the other people make layouts, according to the theme, for her journal. All of the participants will be attending the SISiversary weekend in Franklin, TN in a few weeks. Usually circle journal go in the mail. Instead, we'll all exchange layouts at the event. All of the layouts are double 8 x 8s except for the one indicated.

This is the cover I made for my journal. It holds 8 x 8 layouts.

This is inside the front cover...it explains the theme for my journal.

Each person is asked to make tags that tell about themselves. I created this pocket page to hold all of the tags I will receive.

This is the layout I made for my own journal.

This is a 6 x 6 layout for a journal with the theme of "home".

This journal's theme is "Why I scrapbook".

This theme is "Guilty Pleasures" - Yes, I watch Kyle XY!

"Inspiration" is the theme for this journal. I was inspired by a set of note cards I bought at MoMA in NYC

This one was to scrap a song lyric and to include a picture of yourself...I chose "What was I thinking" by Dierks Bently. I highlighted some of my many hairstyles over the years.

The theme of this journal is "What makes you, you!". I included some self descriptive words along with other things that made me who I am today.

Since this journal, I've signed up for my second. I still haven't decided on my theme yet but I really do need to get crackin'!

CHALLENGE TIME

Nothing great going on, so I've had some time to do some Challenge scrapping.


This first one is for OLW ##40 - The word this week is "NO". While at my sister's house last week I got a chance to see and play with my little grand-nephew or great-nephew (or whatever it's supposed to be). He was such constant motion that most of my pics came out blurry. So, I used that to my advantage and made this layout. I used a photo editing feature connected with Flickr that does mosaics, to make this photo.

This is a great challenge blog called Scrapping The Music. The gals there post songs and we're supposed to use that song as a prompt in some way with which to create (was that grammatically correct?) Anyway, this song is "This is Me" by Demi Lovato.

I dug deep for this one and pulled out some real old pics!

It felt great to get right down and get a bit messy again.

I did start a new physical therapy session for my back/neck/leg...so right now I'm very sore so I have to find time to do exercises at home but that can't stop me from relaxing at my scrap table!

CREATING KEEPSAKES CONVENTION

I was so busy, last week, blogging about my fantastic cruise that I didn't have time to tell you all about the CKC here in Louisville this past weekend! It started on Thursday night and went through Saturday. I didn't even find out about it until Wednesday!! I don't know what rock I'd been under!!. Anyway, I went on Friday. I didn't have time to sign up for any classes, and they were probably all closed anyway, BUT, I did have plenty of time to shop!! I shopped for about 5 hours straight! It was pretty good. Booth upon booth. Of course, there were lots of things that I had no use for, like stenciling and kits, but I still managed to spend quite a few bucks!

I think this is where I spent the most money. This booth, Creek Bank Creations, sold fantastic chipboard products that they laser cut themselves. Their trick? Fat is where it's at. All their chipboard is thicker so it won't warp.

I love this booth too...The Paper Loft

Now, I need to hunker down and USE all this stuff!
