SCRAPPY TIMES!!!

For the last 2 weeks, my husband was out of town Monday through Thursday. So, what's a scrapper to do? I scrapped till I dropped! It was great, although I did miss him. Glad when he came home. But I had my own crop-a-thon!

At SIStv we play this "free shopping" scrapping game on the weekends and this weekend I got to play along. The first person lists 10 scrapping items. The next person chooses, or "buys" 3 of those items to use on a layout and then replaces them with 3 other items. Well, the 3 items I bought for this layout was:
1)black as a background,
2) masking to create my own paper and
3) Thickers.
I also took this opportunity to practice my photo editing skills on this 1962 pic of my sister, brother and me. It was awful; full of, what looked like, rust stains. I was thrilled to restore it! The other photo is from my niece's wedding in May 2008.

This layout fulfilled requirements for 2 challenges. Scrapper's Block said to use no pattern paper while Scrapping Out Loud said to use a grid and the word "hope". I used the collage feature on Picasa to create the grid of pics and then cut them apart for the layout.

Sewing on layouts...what a great embellishment...it adds texture and detail! I used it here on this layout about our trip to Stone Mountain, GA back in 2007

When we were in Atlanta we wen tto the Coca Cola Museum. While there I bought these Coke papers not knowing I could get them nearly anywhere. They've been sitting in my box since 2007 and I just felt I had to use them. So, here's a double layout with lots of machine stitching.

This layout is a more somber one; brought me back down to earth. Scrap Mojo had a challenge based on the story of Peter Pan. We were to use anything in the story as inspiration for a layout. I chose this quote, "All children, except one, grow up". At first I started gathering all sorts of pics of my daughters when they were little. Then I stumbled upon these pictures of my nephew Adam and my children with my 2 nephews. This challenge then took a complete "U" turn - a completely different meaning. We lost Adam in 1988; he was torn from our lives. I used the color core card stock whick let me use sand paper to create Adam's name above his photo. The challenge also said to use a frame and I used this circle border from Magistical Memories.

AHOY MATEYS!!

Thanks to Barb and her Zutter, I have finally finished my mini book about Adam and his Pirate Camp from last summer. The real name of the camp is Cabbage Kids Adventure Camp and then each time we have camp we have a different theme.


This camp was a lot of fun and, for the first time, I actually had an assistant, which did help a lot! Our camper, Bradley's (the softee with the red hair) mom, Heidi and her daughter Brianna (I think), helped out on a couple of days. It was different for me but it was a huge help.

We had a total of 14 campers that came from all over the U.S. and Canada. We even had a celebrity in our midst...Ben Winkler. Don't remember him? He's the Cabbage Patch Kid from the Geico Insurance commercials. And, Ben was kind enough to sign autographs for the all of his new friends.


Next summer? Well, if we do have camp, it will be Safari Camp. Adam LOVES animals and so do most of his friends. Adam Luther is already thinking of lots of plans.

And the Saga Continues...

My horoscope this morning in our local newspaper...sounds great to me, even though I really don't believe in this stuff. But, what the heck! I'm biting.

I was scheduled for an arthrogram on my hip this morning at 10:45 but I had to show up at 9:45. I guess I needed an hour to fill out 4 lines on a form and to make sure I wasn't wearing anything metallic!


The receptionist says, "Did anyone call you about your bill?" I said, "No". "Well, you'll have to talk to our billing specialist before your procedure"...not something you want to hear! I was already stressed about this particular test.

The billing specialist goes on to tell me that my portion was going to be at least $593.00...but they couldn't be sure, oh, and didn't someone call me in the past few days to tell me this? Again, I said, "NO" and also that I wasn't prepared for this and wasn't prepared to go ahead with the test. One thing led to another and I thought they wanted payment up front ( I was wrong) but then there's my (Happy New Year) deductible so I was going to be shelling out over $1500.00 for this here test that I'm not even sure I even want any more.

So, in the end, I left the hospital without the test and in a very sour, pissy mood! Now, we're shopping around to see if we can negotiate on the cost of the test and/or if I really, really need the test!!. Will it even guarantee to find out the cause of my pain? I have no idea! My day started out better than this but now I feel pretty crappy.

The good part of my day started out with my weigh in at Weight Watchers: Down 1 pound! YAY for that. I guess the training I've been doing has been paying off. I just wish I could continue on with my trainer but there is the matter of the green stuff that she'd like to get in return. Maybe my horoscope was referring to my weight.

So, I guess the day has had some good and not so good news. The day's not even half over yet. I am going to get my nails done today and getting a car seat installed in my car...YES a car seat. More on that later.

I also found out that Adam Luther made it to his Canadian destination safely. Phew! That's a relief!!

Adam's Home!

YAY! Adam came home on Friday. Did I mention that Adam Luther's been visiting his friends in Colorado for the past 3 weeks? Yes, Adam Luther, my main little guy, has his own circle of friends and he's been traveling on his own. After all, he is nearly 20 years old! Well, I've already written about all the ice around here last week. I had to meet the postman at the garage to get the box so he wouldn't have to walk up the icy front steps.

Adam really doesn't like traveling by box but when he goes solo he doesn't have any other choice. He really loves airplanes! But, when he goes by box he has to have his flashlight with him and a toy or something to help pass the time. This time he took Buster, the new puppy he got from friends at the holidays. Buster has been a constant companion since December. He got that toy frog while he was in Colorado. It was good to have him home. Whenever he's away I always get nervous about the US mail service and him getting damaged or lost. I'm sure I'll be posting more about Adam's adventure later on.

Weekend scrapping always gets put aside a little for me. Gotta spend a little time with my husband while he's home. I don't want him to feel neglected. So, we went bowling again. That makes 2 weeks in a row. Woohooo! I'm getting better, at least. First week no better than 65. This week I broke 100! We're going to try to keep this a weekly thing. He's gone on business till Wed so I should get some serious scrapping done in between a few short appointments (dentist & haircut).
